Pastor - Reservoir UMC

Since July of 2002, Rev. Lucy E. Jones has been the pastor of the Reservoir United Methodist Church. Prior to this, she pastored three rural churches in Columbia county (New York) near the Berkshires. Rev. Jones graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in May of 1998.

Before theological studies, she was the Vice President of Education and Information Services at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for 8 years and the Direct of Education for three years. Rev. Jones holds an M.S. in horticulture from the University of Delaware. She has published books and articles in the field of public garden education, consulted nationally and internationally for gardens and museums, and served on committees and boards of national and metropolitan museum and garden professional associations. The Reverend is a board member of the North American Coalition for Christianity and Ecology and has been interviewed on local radio programs discussing spirituality and gardening.

As a second-career “country parson,” she enjoys sharing a love of nature with the Reservoir congregation and bringing a creation spirituality together with social justice concerns.

Secretary & Director
of Christian Education

Carol has been attending church regularly since she was two weeks old. When it came time to choose a major at Wheaton College (IL), Christian Education was a natural compliment to her gifts and interests. From church school teacher to youth group leader, from pianist to choir director, from secretary to worship and Bible study leader, she has worn numerous volunteer and staff “hats” at the churches with which she has been affiliated.

While Carol was director of a faith-based after school program in Kingston, New York, she created and adapted curriculum for the weekly meetings, and supervised the volunteer staff. She has also written church school curriculum for David C. Cook and Christian Ed. Publishers, and has published work with Contemporary Drama Service and Guide Magazine. She and Reservoir UMC’s choir director, Lee Stowe, have collaborated on several pieces for SATB choir, including Your Light Has Come, a Christmas cantata.
When she’s not busy at church, Carol loves to bake, sew, read, bike, and take walks with her four-legged “personal trainer,” a yellow lab named Fred. Her two great loves on this earth are her sons, Caleb and Joshua.

This is what the Lord says… “I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord…
